my weekend with zack arias

in my first grown-up, full time job, i had a boss who was fantastic. i worked in a pretty fickle industry, so after a bit he and the company “parted ways”. i was upset and moved into a different part of the company where my new boss told me “if you don’t change, you will become extinct”. i can’t think of another statement to more appropriately sum up my weekend.

on friday, Zack Arias (who is an awesome photographer and also gets points for being an Atlanta photographer) kicked off a 3 day lighting webinar, hosted by creativeLIVE. the class was streamed live from Seattle and there was never a glitch. the information was amazing and the quality of the production was outstanding. i am sitting here still in awe of the fact that i just watched this whole thing online (maybe 25 hours worth!?) with something like 60,000 people from around the world. and then, as if all of the aforementioned wasn’t enough…Zack took pictures of a model swimming in a fish tank…live…online!

my point about becoming extinct – think about how social networking and technology have changed our lives. while things like facebook and twitter seem to be more of a hassle than anything else, they are here to stay. it seems that everyone and everything has a website, a twitter name…a facebook page. have a look at the back of the macy’s advertisement you get everyday in the mail – it even has facebook and twitter info. so…you have to keep changing. you can’t be stagnant. you don’t want to become extinct. there was never a more clear example than this weekend for me.
